Too sensitive

A spoken word piece for anyone who’s ever wished they could feel less.

I spent a long time wishing I was less sensitive. I wanted to be less affected and impacted by things. I thought being less moved by everything would make me more grounded.

But it didn’t, how could it?

What no one told me was that sensitivity isn’t fragility, it’s openness. It’s a heart that never went numb, a heart that never froze over even when it could have.  It was my body still responding to things that mattered.

It’s the part of me that still feels, still loves, and still hopes. And the part of me I don’t ever want to lose.

I hope I never harden. If sensitivity is the price of noticing beauty, loving deeply, and being moved by the world, it’s a price I’m willing to pay.

What’s something about your sensitivity that you’ve come to appreciate? I’d love to know.
