🎧UNRAVELED Episode 3: Is Perfectionism Really That Bad? A Conversation with Jake Ernst

Embracing perfectionism as a skill set

Hello wild ones,

Here is another episode of the UNRAVELED Podcast. I have many more coming out, some of which feature juicy conversations that invite a deeper inquiry into ourselves, our relationships, and the world at large.

In this episode, I sat down with my friend and colleague, Jack Ernst, to talk about perfectionism, self-criticism, and internal safety. Jake shares so much wisdom, and this episode is jam-packed with ah-ha moments.

Here is a brief summary of our conversation:

Perfectionism is something many of us experience and is often driven by shame, anxiety, or fear - but it's not something we should always vilify.  This conversation with our guest, Jake, lends itself to a new way of looking at perfectionism and rather than trying to stop being a perfectionist, we are invited to embrace perfectionism as a skill set instead. In this episode, Jake and I talk about the 8 modes of perfectionism, how to cultivate compassion, and the journey of embracing who we really are.

Jake is a writer, social worker, and psychotherapist and works primarily with children and teens who have experienced trauma, relational challenges, and mental health issues.

Being vulnerable, finding our inner voice, and embracing our sense of self can feel challenging. Jake shares his vulnerable experience of writing a letter to his late father - an experience that supported him with renegotiating an important and tender period in his life.
